Paalkampeerterreinen in Holland

During a little online research into my next cycling expedition, I stumbled across a way of staying cheaply in Holland, which is Paalkampeerterreinen. This rather long phrase in Dutch basically means “pole camping sites”, and there are about two dozen of these scattered throughout what is a relatively small country.

The Paalkampeerterreinen areas are often described as basic, or back country, consisting of little more than a stand-pipe for water and a place to pitch a tent. They are located in tucked away places, normally only accessible by foot or bike, and in fact, most Dutch people do not even know they exist!

For me, these Paalkampeerterreinen areas sound ideal, and it is certainly worth planning my approximately week long cycle route through Holland around them. I found a useful site here http://www.poi.nu/show_album?album=paalkamperen. They are best found with a GPS device, and this is something that I intend to buy for my next trip.
